TOEFL iBT Test Preparation (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
As part of the Mason Academy program, we prepare students for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) iBT test which most universities and colleges require from students whose first language is not English. It is widely accepted in universities in the U.S. and in more than 130 countries worldwide.
At Mason Academy, our courses are divided into different learning levels:
In the course, students learn and practice important skills and strategies to achieve high scores on the test. Students practice taking mock tests of all sections on the computer, simulating the real experience of taking the test.
This test consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
Reading: Students read academic passages where they will be taught to scan through the reading to understand the general meaning plus the specific details they are given. They’ll also learn what type of questions to expect on the test, including making inferences, analyzing rhetorical questions, and understanding vocabulary.
Listening: Students listen to a variety of situations including conversations and academic lectures. Through listening to the way real people talk in a natural setting, students practice how to listen for main ideas and details. A variety of accented English is presented. Note-taking skills are also practiced in this section.
Speaking: Students practice answering questions on a variety of topics that relate to personal experience, campus situations, and academic lectures. Students will learn to speak naturally and confidently to maximize their score.
Writing: Students practice how to answer the essay questions through a developed outline, using the necessary vocabulary and grammar skills to write an essay.
